There are villas in Corfu to suit everyone. One of Greece's most popular holiday destinations, the island of Corfu (also called Kerkyra) is the most northerly of the Ionian Islands group and lies at the entrance of the Adriatic Sea. The second largest of the Ionians after Kefalonia, with an area of 592 sq km, the island has a population of around 100,000 with 30,000 living in the capital, Corfu. The town is built between two fortresses and has many elegant buildings, pretty town squares with alfresco dining, and some fine Byzantine churches.
Villas in Corfu, with its mild Mediterranean climate and winter rainfall are always in demand. It is the most verdant of Greek islands and it is mountainous, with the highest Mt. Pantokrator (914 metres) located in the north. The coastal areas can be quite touristic, but many of the mountain villages retain their rustic style and offer some of the prettiest and quietest villas in Corfu. The main agricultural products are olive groves and vineyards.

There is an incredible array of accommodation on Corfu, but the best way to enjoy the island for those with a sense of adventure and who prize their independence is to rent a villa. Because of the popularity of villa rental Corfu should be booked well in advance, especially for the in high season (July and August). Most villas will have a pool and terrace and many are set in landscaped grounds with stunning views of their rural or seaside surrounds. Rental cars are advisable as there are many interesting day trips to beaches, mountain villages or architectural gems. And an evening meal at one of the many surrounding restaurants is a welcome change from dining in.
