Holidays in Praia de'l Rey
Praia de'l Rey offers an unspoilt environment with plenty of Portuguese culture and some interesting architecture. Located in the south of the Costa de Prata (The Silver Coast) and just north of the Lisbon, the Costa de Prata stretches 200kms from Espinho in the north down to Ericeira in the south. While the region's beaches include some of Europe's best, be sure to visit the small hill villages. At Alcobaca is the world heritage Cistercian abbey; Conimbriga is renown for its Roman remains; and the medieval walled town of Obidos is dominated by a castle. On the banks of the Mondego River, Coimbra is one of the oldest University cities in Europe. The important Marian shrine at Fatima is famous for monthly pilgrimages. Be sure to try the seafood restaurants of the fishing ports of Ericeira, Nazare and Peniche.
An hour's drive north of the capital city of Lisbon, is the Praia de'l Rey Golf and Country Club, a 200-hectare golf and residential resort with 2.5kms of beachfront. The 18-hole championship golf course, one of the finest courses in Europe, has an excellent clubhouse and eight tennis courts. The new five-star 179-bedroom Marriott Hotel, (including 11 luxurious suites) has two good restaurants with cuisine to suit all tastes, and breathtaking views of the ocean and the golf course. Travel to Praia de'l Rey has been much improved by the new motorway that connects the region to Lisbon and beyond.
