Quick guide to Playa de Las Americas, Tenerife

At the southwestern tip of Tenerife is one of the original and best resorts on the island, Playa de Las Americas. Purpose built in the 1960s next to the town of Los Cristianos, this pleasure playground lies on dazzling white sands imported from the Sahara and has all the ingredients of a lively holiday, with nightclubs, restaurants, beach bars and water sports galore. Attracting tourists throughout the year and northern Europeans for winter sun, Playa de Las Americas is one of the most popular destinations in the Canary Islands.

With warm temperatures regularly in the 20s throughout the year, Tenerife’s south coast is popular at any time. Playa de Las Americas does not have a high season as such, but booking here out of school holidays could save money. Tourists take holidays in Playa de Las Americas for sun, sea and sand, but also the exuberant nightlife, which is concentrated in the many bars and clubs of Veronicas Strip for late night partying. Playa de Las Americas has a casino and a variety of international restaurants, and there are traditional tapas bars and Spanish eateries in nearby resorts such as Los Cristianos.

Playa de Las Americas is not just about the night life. By day, this is a fabulous area for sports, with an excellent 18-hole golf course at Golf Las Americas, as well as surfing, diving and catamaran clubs at the resort. There are also opportunities to go dolphin and whale watching in the glorious blue sea. Along the coast at El Médano is some of the island’s best surfing..
